Restaurants and cafes had been mushrooming in Bangalore. Every place goes an extra mile to present something unique to the customers. Among the hustle bustle of city life, I still feel to go to some place which has a tranquil ambience and which is close to nature. One such place to chill out is ”Chavadi”. I have heard a lot from friends about this place and finally last week I got a chance to visit Chavadi.
It is located on the rooftop of a standalone building on Bannerghatta main road. It shares the ground floor entrance with Arama Suites. One cannot make out how beautiful this place would be from the ground floor. As the lift door opened, I realised that I came to a different planet. Awesome ambience with greenery at every nook and corner and filled with ample natural light. Though the entire restaurant is on rooftop, it is designed in such a way that there are four levels of seating. Vibrant walls at the entrance with photographs at one side and canvas paintings at the other portrays an artistic look.
We were greeted by Mr Alwin who showed us the place. They have a lovely kitchen garden at the terrace from where they plant herbs used for cooking. Beside the terrace, there is a wood fire oven from where some yummy pizzas peeped from within! They also have pickled vegetables soaked in brine which is served on request. I saw a couple of letter boxes on one side and upon enquiry, came to know about an interesting concept. If you have a proposal for someone, you can open up your heart on a piece of paper and post it along with the recipient’s address in those letter boxes. Chavadi team will post them for you! Isn’t it sweet?
There are also lots of fun things available for kids here. They provide colours, drawing paper, brush, mixing plates for painting. In fact even adults can paint if they wish and theyframe your paintings on a wall.
After a walk through of the place, we settled down on a cozy corner. The staff had been very courteous and helped us with the menu. To start with, I had a glass of sangria, accompanied by pepper chicken and devilled eggs in mustard sauce. Eggs were amazing and its combination with mustard sauce is a killer!
We were a group of 6 so there were quite many dishes to taste. Mulligatawny soup was a signature soup from Chavadi and I just loved it. I also tasted Nigerian suya- a chicken starter coated with soya and spices. Next were fish fingers which were prepared to perfection. The sesame and chilli grilled fish was also fantastic. From my vegetarian friend, I tasted assorted veg platter, mushroom duplex and campfire potatoes. The potatoes were kind of average and the mushroom preparation was decent. But the spinach balls inside the veg platter needs a special mention. It had just the right cheese, a little crisp from outside and soft and moist inside.
The view from our seat was lovely- the lush green foresty backyard of IIMB campus. It showered an extra dose of oxygen and lifted the mood of the place.
My friends ordered some very innovative and interesting cocktails. Some of them were jalapeno margarita, litchi curry martini (curry leaves infused) and Chavadi’ s Neera. The Neera was served inside a tender coconut and looked very earthy.
After a power packed starters, there was little room left for main course. So I just had a slice of tandoori chicken pizza and fish cake in lemon butter sauce. The pizza was good. The star of the show was the fish cake. I think I had the best fish cake in town and the lemon butter sauce just complemented it at its best!
No meal is complete without a dessert. A spoonful of chocolate brownie with vanilla ice-cream saved me from the sweet cravings! It came on a sizzler plate with chocolatesauce dripping. Even if I have this dessert a million times, I still greedily look at it as if it were my first time:)
I took my son along and he enjoyed thoroughly with small toys, bubble game, painting and stuff like that. He had a bowl of French fries and a glass of watermelon juice in between. As kids have lots of activities to keep busy, they do not disturb the elders. I really had a great time here. Loved the ambience and the awesome food. In literal terms ”Chavadi” means a place to socialize. But this is a place where you can socialize , do fun activities as well as go for a romantic date. This was my lunch time visit and I am really looking forward to visit this amazing place at night.
